These tiny primates, with their distinctively slow and graceful movements, captivate observers as they navigate branches with remarkable alertness. As you explore, you may also witness tree crabs clinging to mangrove roots or spot various fish gliding through gentle forest streams. With a bit of luck, you could even glimpse playful river otters or hear the distant call of a nightjar echoing through the forest.
After this unforgettable experience, you’ll return to your lodge in time for a warm dinner beneath the stars.
Wilpattu lies about 180 km north of Colombo and is Sri Lanka’s largest national park, stretching over 1,300 km². The name Wilpattu means “land of lakes,” derived from its many villus—shallow natural water basins scattered through the forest.
The park’s landscapes blend dry-zone scrubland, sandy coastal plains, and freshwater lakes, creating a serene backdrop for nocturnal observation.
The loris night walk begins near the park’s Maradanmaduwa and Thalavila sectors, known for frequent sightings. Guests can access the park by private vehicle from Colombo, Negombo, or Anuradhapura, typically a 4 – 5 hour journey. Overnight stays are arranged at eco-lodges or tented safari camps located near the main park gates for easy evening entry.
